Christine Garratt's End to End

In 2016 Christine rode from Lands End to John O’Groats.

Back cover blurb –
As a child, the author was taught that nothing truly
meaningful was ever achieved without hard work. A
certain amount of blood, sweat, and tears was to be
expected in life. The expression has various sources,
and carries the implication of something which is a
struggle. In crafting the title as ‘Blood surging, Sweat dripping, and Tears of joy it is deliberately turned from a negative into a positive, which in many ways is the main message of this book: arriving at the top after sweating up a Cairngorm is a special and incredibly joyful moment, made all the more thrilling by the realisation that you overcame your demons and survived the climb; recovering from serious illness carries with it a greater happiness in the context of the fear and uncertainty of your journey; the final cadence in a piece of music is a sweet moment when the key was difficult and the rhythm

This is a book about cycling, illness, music and life. Profits from the £8.50 cover price will go to The Brain Tumour Charity, a wonderful organisation which aims to ‘double survival and halve the harm brain tumours have on quality of life’ and which gave me invaluable support since I was first diagnosed........
If you’d like to read about my ride and the positive afterthoughts it generated, please consider buying a copy.

Email me to order a copy. I’ll reply with postage and payment details and will be posting copies in early August.

Club Time Trial - Come & Try It event

Congregation & Start
Our Club Time Trial this Thursday 6th July is our second (and last) Come and Try It event for this season on the Newton circuit.

Unlike our normal club events, you do not have to be a member of a cycling club to enter. No preference is given to CCC members - it is a case of first come first served.

This event is free to enter.

You must be at least 12 years old and if under age 18 we require Parental Consent. No special equipment or clothing is necessary but if under 18 you must wear an approved helmet.

We require a working rear light, either flashing or constant, to be be fitted to your bike in a position visible to following road users, and this must be active whilst riding the event.

First rider off at 19:16. Riders can complete either one or two laps (6 or 12 miles approx). You do not have to declare in advance the number of circuits. Should you decide after one circuit enough is enough, be careful not to impede riders who are on their second lap.

Warnings: -
1) there are now 3 sets of speed ramps on the approach to the turn in Newton. Over/undertaking slow moving vehicles is not allowed between the 30mph sign entering Newton and the turn at the Queens' Head pub.
2) riders must keep to their side of the carriageway when exiting corners.
The corner marshals will be noting transgressors.
