ECCA 12 hour

It was great to see two CCC riders in the ECCA 12  this weekend.

Here is a picture of Ken Platts, looking his usual cool, calm and collected self. Also Chris Hughes, who looked a bit dishevelled, before donning a red cap.

I don't know the results yet - I'll update this blog when I do*.

Ken was supported by Hilary and Tom Platts and
Chris was supported by Basil and Kate.

I'll also mention that the GT group graced us with their presence with their fearless leader bringing up the rear...

Katherine and Pam Missenden whizzed by as did Stuart Hallam (not so whizzy).Quite a cyclist's junction!

*Winner: Nik Bowdler       300.4
          (4th) Ken Platts        269.2
          (24th) Chris Hughes 223.3

Summer Sportives

With the summer in full swing (!?) it's good to see CCC members taking advantage of it - by completing sportives abroad such as The Etape!

Here's a picture of Felix. In his own words:

"I came 96th out of 5688 starters in a time of 6h46. The route was 152km long and had 5000m of vertical ascent."

Owen hits top form!

Attached is a photo of the finish of the Iceni Velo Road Race. Owen got edged out in the closest of photo' finishes by Mike Auger of Strada Sport after controlling the race throughout when he got into a breakaway group of about 15 riders. Knowing that his sprint prowess is second to none in the Region, he sat back and waited for the finish deciding to lead out the sprint against a number of top level riders. In a real surprise, Mike just managed to get the verdict by a tyres width.

This kicked off a suberb run of form for Owen, who has put together two second places and an emphatic win against some top rate and far more experinced opposition in the past couple of weeks. These latest results, have piled up the points on top of a particularly good showing earlier in the season when Owen got a superb 4th place in the Divisional Championships. Owen has now flown past his 300 points for the year and has got his Elite Road Racing licence.

In no small part, this has pushed the Road Race team into 3rd place in the ERRL rankings for the year and Owen, despite very few race opportunities to score points sits in 5th place in the individual standings.
